Recently I started making my own laundry soap. I had heard my friends talking about it and thought I would give it a try. I searched on the internet and found quite a few recipes so I called around to some of my friends. One friend recommended a recipe with Fels Naptha soap in it saying it makes the best laundry detergent. Another friend said any soap would work. So this is the recipe I went with.

1 bar Fels Naptha soap
1 cup Borax
1 cup Washing Soda
5 gallon bucket
Grate the soap. Melt the soap in water on the stove. Meanwhile add 1 gallon of water and 1 cup Borax and 1 cup washing soda to the 5 gallon bucket. Pour the melted soap in the bucket and stir. Add enough water to almost fill the bucket. Add 1/2 cup to 1 cup to your laundry.
My mixture became thick at the top. My husband stirs it with the paint stirer attachment on his electric drill. I just leave the bucket beside my washing machine. You can also pour your homemade laundry soap into empty liquid containers with some marbles for a good shake-up before pouring into the washer.
This my second bucket. The laundry seems just as clean as it did before for a fraction of the price. I was paying 22 cents a load now I pay 4 cents a load.
My kids thought this was a fun project.
